My Bloody Valentine, the second Wicked Wahine Bowl Contest was
held at the infamous Kelly Bellmar pool. If you've ever skated there,
you know how gnarly his pool can be. I was happily surprised that
the girls took to it and tore it up. Some have never skated there
before and by the end of their first day were getting double truckers.
Others had never done frontside grinds in a pool before and learned
them there. The action was heated and the girls really stepped it
up for this contest.
Highlights included Juwels, Cara-Beth and Mimi all going for the
channel. All of Cara-Beth's runs. Nicole dropping in while Cara-Beth
was rolling in from the deck and almost killing each other. Great
vibe and even greater support by the folks that showed up.
The format was different than the last contest. It was broken up
into three heats. Each heat was a jam session. The results were
based on categories: Longest Grind, Highest Air, The Deathbox Challenge,
Best Trick, My Bloody Valentine, Most Stylee and Skater Most Improved.
Thanks to all the sponsors that made it possible and to Bambam
and Biscuits for putting it together. But most of all, thanks to
Kelly for letting the Wahines take over his backyard for all the
practice sessions and the contest. |
